"Time and Transportation" volunteers are members of a Shepherd's
Center team who participate in enabling elders to go to stores,
medical appointments, and other community activities.
For those who cannot access public transportation, the gift of
"wheels" is so very much appreciated by those who would otherwise
be cut off from any activities other than the most basic necessities.
Shepherd's Center volunteers provide no-cost,
door-to-door service, and the extra help that
many elders need to get to places the rest of
us take for granted. Not only do they provide
transportation, but they also give the precious
gift of time - time for elders to move at their
own pace, time to visit a friend, time to run an
errand, time to "visit" while riding.
Giving a ride to a neighbor goes hand in hand with the commitment to put Faith into Action by helping to keep neighbors living independently in their own homes for as long as possible.
In conjunction with the Greater Boston Food Bank,
Shepherd's Center "Brown Bagging" volunteers
distribute groceries monthly to low income elders.
Those who participate in this monthly program give hope to others as they deliver groceries to those in need. Our volunteers tell us that feeding the hungry is only one part of the equation. The other part is how they themselves are fed. They have discovered the wonderful secret of volunteering - you get as much as you give!
Do you, or someone you know, need help with groceries? Call our office and we will assist you. As you hungry for a chance to help? Call for more information.
